Lori Janik is a licensed master social worker and clinician who left a permanent mark on Mathews's family after an accident when his son was 6. She gives us insight into how she is helping people arrive at self-compassion and develop an understanding that balance is not a static place through her work at Cactus Flower Healing.

In this episode, Mathew, Dr. Dave, and Chad (aka Mental Joe) talk about how an accountability buddy is different from a sponsor or mentor, how to pick your buddy, how it may impact your relationship with them, and the different styles of accountability and communication work for different people. They discuss the kind of things we need to be held accountable for, why letting go of guilt and regret is essential for healing, and how long-term change is created by celebrating small victories, trusting the process, and looking for success over long intervals.
Mental Joe also tells us about his experience with TRE and Dr. Dave goes over some of the reasons those alternative treatments are not embraced by the VA and insurance companies.
